Welcome from Mrs. Cox

Hello, my name is Mary Cox, I am an educator in the Derry Area School District.  An alumnus of Derry Area, I continued my education at the University of Pittsburgh earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.  While at Pitt, I secured my certification in Secondary Social Studies Education.  Additionally, I completed my Elementary certification at St Vincent College.   

I teach 6th grade World Regions in the Social Studies department of  Derry Area Middle School.  This course highlights the important physical and cultural aspects of the world around us.  The purpose is to expand students' understanding of the scope of differences and similarities in our world.


I have lived in the Derry Area for most of my life.  As a proud Derry alum, I have taught for 28 years in the district.  After a short time  teaching in the high school, I have been educating students in middle school for the majority of my career. For the last 8 years I have also served as the 6th grade team leader.
