Welcome from Mr. Tatone
Education
In 1991, after completing my Student Teaching experience at Thomas Jefferson High School in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, I earned my Instructional I teaching certificate, and graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Secondary Education/Social Studies and a Minor in Business/Liberal Arts. After completing graduate level courses in History as well as in a variety of other disciplines, I earned my Instructional II certificate and eventually Master's Equivalency status by 2004. In 2018, I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and completed the requirements for an Administrative I Certificate in Pennsylvania.
Work Experience
From 1991-1992 I served as a Substitute Teacher in the North Hills school districts of Allegheny County, primarily at North Allegheny School District, where I also was an assistant coach for the junior high wrestling team. At that time, I also made deliveries as an employee of the Pony Express Courier Corporation in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. For the next four years, I taught in a variety of capacities, year-round, at Adelphoi Village Schools. Experiences included teaching all core disciplines in a Pre-Vocational Program primarily, but also in Day Treatment, Diagnostic, and Group Home settings. In 1996, I started my tenure at Derry Area as an eighth grade American Cultures I teacher in the Middle School until 2010. Since then, I have taught American Civics, American Cultures II, World Geography, Western Civilization, and AP European History at Derry Area High School. In the past at Derry, I have coached Boys Soccer and Girls Tennis at the High School, as well as Wrestling and Track at the Middle School. For fourteen years I was the High School Yearbook advisor, and for ten years I was the Middle School Newspaper Advisor and department Co-chair.
Current Teaching Assignments
I currently teach tenth grade Western Civilization and eleventh grade Advanced Placement European History. I also serve as a 21st Century Community Learning Center Program Instructor and Co-chair of the Social Studies Department.
