Welcome from Mrs. Teri Smith

Education:
I attended Susquehanna University and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Vocal Performance.  I earned my PA Teacher Certification in K-12 Music Education and a Master in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from The Pennsylvania State University.  I also completed Ph.D. coursework in Music Education (ABD), with an emphasis in Curriculum, from The Pennsylvania State University.

Work Experience:
Throughout my professional career, I have taught voice, piano, and music theory lessons to children, college students, and adults.  While obtaining my Master in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy at Penn State, I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant and taught Undergraduate Voice lessons and classes.

During my first year of K-12 teaching, I taught K-3 General and Choral Music in the Colonial School District.  For the following 4 years, I taught Middle School General and Choral Music in the Cumberland Valley School District and directed the Central PA Youth Opera in Harrisburg.  I then returned to Penn State as a Graduate Fellow and Teaching Assistant to complete Ph.D. coursework in Music Education (ABD).  During this time, I taught Undergraduate Music Education and Elementary Education classes, supervised Music Education student teachers, and presented Music Education sessions and research projects at various colleges, conferences, and schools throughout the United States.

Following Penn State, I taught 1 year of K-6 General and Choral Music in the Greater Latrobe School District as a long-term substitute and directed DAHS's musical, Into the Woods. I was then hired to teach K-5 General and Choral Music at Grandview Elementary and directed DAHS's musicals  Beauty and the Beast and The Wizard of Oz.  In August of 2019, I moved to the Middle School and High School and since then have been teaching 6-12 Choral Music and General Music.
