Welcome From Mr. Flickinger
Education
I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned two degrees. I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Communications Media with a concentration in Journalism. I also graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education in the Department of Health and Human Services. I did my student teaching in the Gateway Area School District.
Work Experience
My teaching career began as a long-term substitute at Gateway High School upon my graduation in December. The following summer I was lucky enough to be hired at my alma mater here at Derry Area. This was special for me not only because I graduated here, but because I was able to step in for Mr. Giotto, who was a well respected teacher and my football coach.
I taught for my first twelve years at the High School in both Health and Physical Education. The past six years I have spent floating between the Middle and High School's teaching P.E. and Weight Training. My teaching experiences have been extremely rewarding and the best part is seeing how well so many of my former students are doing for themselves and their families.
I also served as a High School baseball coach for twenty-three years, and coached football for six seasons here at Derry Area. I enjoy broadcasting many of our Trojan sports on the Westmoreland Sports Network, a company owned by my younger brother Dan, also a Derry Area graduate.
Family
My family includes my wife Beth, son's Hayden (11), and Garrett (8), my two dogs Glaze and Roy, and my cat Willie.
