Education
I attended St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. I graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology Education and certifications in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
Courses Taught
I currently teach STEAM to grades Kindergarten- 5th here at Grandview. STEAM education is an integrated teaching approach that utilizes technology to incorporate the disciplines of Science, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. STEAM education encourages students to solve real life problems while developing collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills; all of which are skills that are crucial in today’s society. During STEAM class, students participate in hands-on engineering challenges centered around Science and Math concepts. Students are also exposed to Computer Science concepts through the use of different computer programming devices.
I also provide Math Intervention to students in grades K-5. I collaborate closely with the classroom teachers to identify students who need addtional supports and assist students in meeting grade level goals.
Work Experience
I have been a part of the Derry Area School District since 2006 when I started my student teaching in the district. In March of 2007, I was hired as a preschool teacher at the Barb Thompson Early Literacy Center. In November of 2007, I was hired as a long-term substitute teacher within a 3rd grade classroom. The following school year, I was hired as a full-time 4th grade teacher. While teaching in 4th grade, I became the Elementary Math and Science Curriculum leader. Throughout my work as curriculum leader, I fell in love with STEAM Education and the values it instills within our students. I began incorporating STEAM education into my 4th grade classroom and was beyond thrilled when Grandview started a STEAM Education course as part of our Specials rotation. I have taught STEAM education as our district's Elementary STEAM teacher since the 2019-2020 school year.
