Education:
Dr. Ferencak completed his undergraduate studies at Duquesne University in 2003 where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. Dr. Ferencak received a Master of Science Degree in Administration and Supervision from Duquesne University in 2007. Through additional coursework, Dr. Ferencak earned two certifications: PK-12 Principal in 2009 and PK-12 Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction in 2013. Dr. Ferencak obtained his Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from California University of PA in 2020. Dr. Ferencak completed his Doctorate in Education program for Administration and Leadership at PennWest University - California in July 2023.
Work Experiences:
Dr. Ferencak taught secondary mathematics at New Castle Area Junior/Senior High School and Greensburg Central Catholic High School for a total of seven years (2003-2010). Dr. Ferencak came to Derry Area School District in July 2016 after serving the Mohawk Area School District for six years as a secondary principal (2010-2016). While at Derry Area, Dr. Ferencak has served the district as the high school principal for two years (2016-2018) and as the Director of Secondary Education for three years (2018-2021). Dr. Ferencak was then appointed Assistant Superintendent for the 2021-2022 school year. On July 1, 2022, Dr. Ferencak became the Superintendent for the Derry Area School District.
Associations and Membership:
Dr. Ferencak is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA), Pennsylvania Principals' Association (PAPA) and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). Dr. Ferencak proudly serves as a school district representative and board member at-large for the Greater Latrobe/Laurel Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce and St. Vincent Prevention Projects.
Theodore Roosevelt once said, "People will never care how much you know until they know how much you care." Dr. Ferencak has found this to be very true in many aspects of both his personal and professional life. Dr. Ferencak is a passionate educator who continuously strives for excellence in all that he does. Dr. Ferencak strives to make a positive difference for all stakeholders each and every day.
